The two Canadian brothers have come a long way. From their humble beginnings in London, Ontario to receiving GQ/CFDA Best New Menswear Designers, Doug and Ben Burkman, the Burkman Brothers, started off by making clothes to pay for their own wardrobe. After refining their skills and gaining a better understanding of the industry while employed at Gap Inc, they left with a different vision. Their general appreciation for practical and wearable clothing, that spawned their business plan. Staunchly believing in the philosophy: "If I wouldn't wear it, I wouldn't make it" approach drives the design to the brother's eponymous label.
No doubt the Brothers derive their influence from various experiences, but a major one coming from their travels. Apparent in their designs is the infusion of American sportswear and semblances of the Asiatic to Tribal. One can appreciate the easiness of the garments — never getting too carried away and never sacrificing taking clothing too seriously.
