Brian Mendoza + Lark

We were very fortunate to catch up with Brian Mendoza on his trip to Vancouver last week. We first met Brian when he was the lead designer for Wings and Horns here in Vancouver, and have grown our mutual respect since his move to Toronto.

Now Brian is working to make HBC what Canadians want it to be as head designer of the men’s contemporary collection for The Bay.

Knowing Brian is having access to his massive knowledge base on clothing construction, brands and history. He is one of those rare types of people who enjoys sharing his knowledge with others rather than hoarding it. He has a confident way about him that transfers onto you. No pretension, no drama, just open and honest conversation.

I have to say that this ladies outfit is PERFECT. It’s true that as the buyer I am responsible for these pieces being in Lark, but the way he put it together is so effortless. I had not thought of the Acne Joy Cotton Organza top as a casual piece, but now I do.

What I love about the men’s outfit is again how simple it is, and for that it is also perfect.

Thank you Brian! You refreshed Lark and gave me some great ideas for next year.
