New Arrivals: Southern Field Industries

Tucked away in the hills of Saitama Japan is a company that is dedicated to hand crafted goods. Using vegetable tanned leathers and a variety of waxed canvases Manabu and Keiko make each piece by hand caring for the details.

Southern Field Industries was established in 2008 by husband and wife Manabu and Keiko.

Until 2008 Manabu worked at his father’s factory making equestrian products for the racehorse industry. They made horse blankets and all kinds of accessories for jockeys. I think the aesthetic of horse racing, horse riding and general romanticism of a horse barn are really apparent in the bags and leather goods that Southern Field Industries hand craft.

The Southern Field Industires Haversack ($235) in turquoise is amazing. Made with waxed canvas and finished with leather detailing it’s built for hard wearing. The balance of the strap construction is really well thought out, it feels comfortable even when you load it full.

True to the Japanese way each interior detail is made to keep you organized. There is a space for everything so everything is in it’s place. Simple genius.

The Southern Field Industries Flap Wallet ($62) is hand stitched to perfection.

It looks even better with age. I say that a lot about the things we sell at Lark because we are always thinking about how the things you purchase with us will fit into your life.

Handcrafted and well designed items which you can rely on doing exactly what they are meant to do for you can really add a little something special to your daily life. They are afteral not just things, they are your things.
