Note: Inspiration
The inspirations that shape and motivate me as the buyer here at Lark are often found in art, as well as life in general. Last summer I took time with Dane to go to the MET during our buying trip for collections arriving this spring. I found myself lost in the modern painters sections being really drawn to soft colours which I worked into the store. Now our new arrivals are starting to deliver and I’m looking back at what it was that inspired me.
One of my favourite artists is Alphonse Mucha. He has an amazing way of using very light and minimal colours to create a mood that is very rich and beautiful. Being Czech, and the child of an artist made it impossible to escape the influence of Mucha and art nouveau in general. You will find it every season at Lark in some small way.
Sometimes I find images on the internet that I file away just for looking at later. I found this post card by Joan Miró and loved the text (reads: This is the colour of my dreams), negative space, and colour of the paper with the blue paint splotch. So simple yet strong.
Paul Cézanne is a master of soft pastel colours, I love how his paintings emanate light. Cézanne’s landscapes always use such unexpected colours, yet they feel totally natural and correct.
Spending time with these artists work inevitably influenced my selections for Lark this season. The softer colours I chose work wonderfully with rich more powerful tones like navy, royal blue and black. Grey is a palette all unto itself which I particularly like in combination with blush tones. (Check out the ACNE grey basement Kex jeans Wendy blogged last month- available in store but not online)

Odina Contrast Blazer ($349)
This blazer is an amazing fit and in this blush tone cotton it is really a fantastic piece. Tiger women now has a new designer who is doing a great job of using the classic suiting and tailoring construction you are used to seeing in the men’s line for women.
I’ve been wearing the ACNE Judy shirt ($348) made with Cotton Organaza pretty much non-stop since I got it. Because it’s sheer I wear the Wonder Tencel T-shirt ($129) in pale pink underneath.
Tiger of Sweden Seren Shirt ($159) is one of those pieces that is so easy to wear. Dress up a pair of jeans or dress down a blazer, you’ll look great!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this little peek into how I decide what to bring into Lark for you, our customer.
