Gift Ideas for the very difficult to shop for

The last week has been really fun and full of holiday cheer. I’ve learned a lot about our customers, new ones and those who I thought I knew pretty well already.

Everyone coming into Lark has been thoughtfully picking up gifts for the people in their lives and chatting about how these items will be appreciated. Some people have even gone to great lengths to make things for people, which is so extremely thoughtful when time is our most precious commodity.

Many of our customers have come in looking for gifts for people in their circle who are difficult, not necessarily difficult people, but hard to find gifts for. I’ve had a lot of conversations about how hard it is to hide disappointment, and also how we hate to see it in others. Here are some items to consider for someone you want so much to please, but are at a loss for where to even start.

Magazines are one of those little luxuries that most people enjoy. The 10 magazine Winter Spring 2012  issue is a good fit for someone who is into fashion, art and modern Chinese culture. If you know someone who is into Soft energy, global culture and the world in general the newest issue of Monocle Magazine Issue 49 Vol. 05 ($10) is a great gift.

We’ve got loads of magazines for you to chose from and we’re happy to help you find one for someone whose tastes and interests are impossible to peg.

Scott-Nichol Socks are the best thing to ever happen to feet. We have a great selection this season for men and so far none have ever come back for an exchange so we’re pretty confident that they go over really well.

I personally love receiving chocolate at Christmas time as a gift. Maybe it’s my own childhood memories of receiving giant European bars of chocolate at Christmas time that gives me that warm fuzzy feeling about a simple and beautiful bar of chocolate.  The Lark Chocolate Bar ($4) is made here in Vancouver in small batches so it is always fresh, and also it is very rare to meet someone who doesn’t love chocolate.

If you are going to bring a child some chocolate it might also be thoughtful to bring the parents some Stain Solution ($20) from The Laundress. It will get everything the holidays have to throw at your clothing out……or everything sticky little hands have to smear on your holiday best. This stain remover is biodegradable, nonallergenic, and super concentrated so it lasts for a very long time.

To go along with the Stain Solution we also recommend the Stain Brush ($12) from The Laundress. It is made in the USA with natural horsehair bristles, which help remove stains from fibers without damaging (non-delicate) fabrics. It works amazingly on collar stains, under arm stains, tiny chocolate fingerprints and anything else that gets rubbed into your fabrics.
